The Russian Emergencies Minister Yevgeniy Zinichev together with specialists from the Moscow Search and Rescue Station has inspected the waters of the Strogino flood plain of the Moskva River.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry continues operation Water – Safe Territory since the beginning of the summer season, which is aimed at prevention of disasters on bodies of water.
The safety of Moscowites and guests of the capital is ensured by 1,600 rescuers and 300 units of equipment. Up to 1,000 volunteer rescuers may be involved from various non-governmental and volunteer organizations that regularly supervise the work of rescuers, departmental rescue stations, as well as availability of safety signs, information stands and rescue equipment at recreation areas.
“Given the fact that it is high summer right now with mostly warm weather, it is essential to give more attention to prevention of disasters, inform people on safety, as well as control movement of vessels, including small ones. All the more, equipment of your units allows carrying out all these efforts at an adequate level”, said the Minister.
There are about 1,000 bodies of water in the capital. As of now, 66 recreation and 12 beaches were permitted for operation. Thanks to efficient cooperation of rescuers of Moscow and interested agencies, the number of accidents on water bodies has decreased by 2.5 times since 2010. 145 people were rescued on bodies of water in 2017.
