State Secretary – Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations Oleg Bazhenov has held a number of bilateral meetings during the ISSE 2018.
During his meeting with Head of the Nicaraguan Armed Forces’ Civil Defense Rogelio Enrique Flores Ortiz, the parties discussed development of relationships between the two countries in training specialists and humanitarian demining.
“We highly appreciate the partnership we have between the Russian Ministry for Emergency Ministry and Nicaraguan Armed Forces in humanitarian demining of Nicaragua and strengthening the national disaster management system,” Mr. Bazhenov said.
He added that the Russian party was interested in developing the International Humanitarian Demining Center of the Russian-Nicaraguan Friendship.
During his conversation with President of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance of Germany Kristov Unger, the two officials discussed development of disaster monitoring and forecasting systems.
“The Russian Emergency Ministry is interested in exchanging data of satellite monitoring between Russia and Germany. We believe that such cooperation would increase the capabilities of our emergency management services,” Mr. Bazhenov said.
According to Mr. Unger relationships between the German Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance and the Russian Emergency Ministry has become much stronger over the past eight years. He added that the German party was interested in exchanging the information on possible disaster received from satellites and in joint efforts in disaster medicine.
During his meeting with Johann Bezdeka, Deputy Director General of Public Safety of the Austrian Ministry of the Interior, Mr. Bazhenov talked about building the global network of crisis management centers.
“The initiative is being actively implemented by the Russian Emergency Ministry together with the UNOCHA to improve exchange of information in case of major disasters requiring international response,” the Russian Emergency Deputy Minister said.
