An event dedicated to the Fire Department Day has been held today at the Emergency Ministry’s Leningrad Region Directorate. A monument to firefighters and rescuers has been opened in the region for the first time. The unveiling ceremony was attended by head of the Emergency Ministry’s Leningrad Region Directorate Yevgeny Deineka, chairman of the Central Council of the All-Russian Volunteer Firefighting Society Vladimir Kudryavtsev, employees of the Ministry, general public.
The present laid flowers and wreaths to the monument and held a moment of silence to pay tributes to their fellows killed in the line of duty.
Mr. Deineka then made a welcoming speech.
“This is a big and important event for the whole fire and rescue force of Leningrad Region. We are paying respect to our fellows killed while doing their duty with honor and while rescuing others,” he said.
Mr. Kudryavtsev noted that the monument added beauty to the Leningrad Region Directorate.
“Years are passing but our profession does not lose its luster. We go on duty each day, fight fires and prevent them, we save human lives. Unfortunately, we lose our friends and colleagues. But it is how it is, we have the oath and regulations of the fire department where the duties of those going into fire are written in blood,” he said.
After the unveiling ceremony, the most distinguished employees of the Emergency Ministry were awarded with medals and letters of commendations.
There was also an exhibition of firefighting and rescue equipment, a mobile kitchen, inflatable bouncers and an interactive ground where everybody was able to feel as a real firefighter or rescuer.
