Sakhalin firefighters have held exercise today at the Mega Palace Hotel to work on evacuation of people from top floors using modern rescue equipment
According to the training scenario, there was a fire on the top floor of the hotel. Fire teams: tank lorries and three units of special equipment moved out to the scene immediately.
The first to come into the building were gas and smoke protection crews accompanied by representatives of the administration. The firefighters found over 10 people on the ground floor in the smoke-filled building which they were not able to leave. At the same time crews outside started deploying hydraulic platform fire trucks and aerials that can stretch out up to 50 meters.
“The firefighters used a rescue cushion also called Cube of Life, an escape chute, an aerial and hydraulic platforms,” said acting deputy head of the Emergency Ministry’s Sakhalin Region Directorate Ilya Karasyov. “This exercise will allow our specialists to improve their skills of using such equipment and in case of real fire they are going to be more efficient and coherent.”
To assess cooperation of emergency services Mr. Karasyov and head of the firefighting service of the Crisis Management Center of the Emergency Ministry’s Sakhalin Region Directorate Aleksei Pereshein also took part in the exercise. The former on jumped onto the rescue cushion, while the latter on used the escape chute to get down from the roof. This allowed them to reveal areas of training that should be revised in future.
Mr. Pereshein noted great professional skills of gas and smoke protection specialists.
9 units of equipment and 40 workers of the Emergency Ministry participated in the exercise. In addition there were ambulances, traffic police and specialists of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk SAR Unit.
