Rescue operations to evacuate 12 fishermen from breakaway ice floes have finished successfully in Tver and Kostroma Regions.
Despite regular warnings specialists of Emergency Ministry’s territorial bodies give to fishermen, response divisions still have to rescue them from breakaway ice floes.
The Tver Region Crisis Management Center received a signal that 8 fishermen were stranded on an ice floe. Rescue crews and ambulances were sent immediately. Emergency Ministry’s specialists helped the fishermen to get to land. Nobody was hurt.
Similar incident happened in Kostroma Region in the Volga River. Rescuers on a hovercraft evacuated from an ice floe 4 fishermen and transported them to the river bank.
Emergency Ministry’s specialists once more explained how dangerous thin ice is and reminded the fishermen that safe ice is at least 7 cm thick, while people can walk on ice when it is 15 cm thick and more.
