The Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations has finished delivering humanitarian aid to the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Over 235 tons of relief supplies, including food, construction materials, power stations and tents provided by Rosrezerv (federal state reserves agency), was brought to Dominica by sea.
The handing down ceremony was held at the port of Roseau, the capital city of Dominica, in presence of the Minister of Justice, Immigration and National Security Mr. Rayburn Blackmoore, ambassador Mr. Hubert Charles and other Dominican officials. On behalf of the Ministry, the event was attended by deputy director of the International Cooperation Department Igor Veselov.
The Dominican Government expressed deep gratitude for humanitarian assistance provided by Russia.
During his trip to Dominica, Mr. Veselov held talks with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit during which they discussed cooperation in disaster management.
Humanitarian assistance was provided to the Commonwealth of Dominica pursuant to the order of the Russian Government.
In September 2017, the island state of Dominica was hit by a devastating hurricane Maria which left Almost every building in the country badly damaged. Storm winds toppled trees and power lines cutting power to many houses. Torrential rains caused floods.
