Emergency Ministry’s rescuers fighting against snowdrifts on M5

Snow blockage has formed today at a section of M5 Ural federal highway between Perevoloki and Pcherskoye (12 km) in Samara Region due to heavy snowfalls. More than 80 trucks are struggling to get through.

Task forces of the Crisis Management Center of the Emergency Ministry’s Samara Region Directorate, Tolyatti and Syzran fire and rescue brigades, SAR divisions, airmobile team of the Directorate, forces and facilities of the Volga Rescue Center were dispatched to the scene.  The truck drivers are being informed via radio channels and the population received text messages about oncoming bad weather.

8 stationary warming centers are operating at the M5. They are designed to keep people safe during bad weather or road accidents. People can stay there for rest, to have some hot food, charge their mobile devices and learn about traffic jams ahead.

Emergency operations center and task forces of the Emergency Ministry’s Samara Region Directorate, repair brigades and road services are working in cooperation with the local government and other emergency services.

Workers of Povolzhupravtodor are clearing and defrosting the road. There are traffic police posts. Joint task forces are patrolling and checking the roads.

According to the Russian Weather Service and All-Russian Monitoring and Forecasting Center Antistikhia, the cyclone is going to stay in Samara Region shifting to the east.

An Emergency Ministry’s Mil Mi-8 helicopter with a task force onboard has left the city of Kazan to monitor the situation in Samara Region.

175 people, 43 units of equipment, including 127 people and 14 units of equipment provided by the Russian Emergency Ministry, are involved in dealing with the situation.
