Emergency Ministry’s employees continue helping regional authorities to fight wildfires in Maritime Territory. The aerial team of two Beriyev Be-200 ChS was reinforced by an Emergency Ministry’s Mil Mi-8 helicopter. So far the threat to houses and infrastructure has been prevented.
Wildfires are raging in 10 out of 22 districts of Maritime Territory. According to the latest information. On 9 October, there were 65 fires on 2,300 ha. The cause of all of them is negligent behavior of people coming into forests. Maritime Territory is the only region in Russia having so many active wildfires in October.
All divisions of the Emergency in the regions have been put on higher alert, while the state of emergency has been declared in Kavalerovo District. Total fire ban has been announced for 8 municipalities (Kavalerovo, Krasnoarmeisky, Olga, Ternei, Chuguyevka, Yakovlevka municipal districts, Artyom and Vladivostok Urban Districts).
429 people and 74 units of equipment are fighting the wildfires. Emergency Ministry’s aircraft have made 25 discharges dropping 300 tons of water.
The aircraft are holding the fires back from moving on to settlements, but the weather makes it hard sometimes. Over the past 24 hours, they have prevented the fires from spreading to 4 settlements (Khrustalny, Rudny, Plastun, Kavalerovo) populated by more than 14.5 thousand people.
The team is planned to be reinforced. So far there is no threat to settlements. Specialists are monitoring the situation round the clock and keeping it under control.
Head of the Emergency Ministry’s Siberian Regional Center Sergei Didienko is flying today to Vladivostok to meet with acting governor of Maritime Territory Andrei Tarasenko and discuss with him steps needed to stabilize the situation. If the weather is fine, the two officials are going to fly around the affected districts on a helicopter and work on the plan of actions.
