Bomb technicians of the Emergency Ministry’s Leader Center for high-risk rescue operations has finished SAR and restoration in Elbrus District, Kabardino-Balkaria hit by a devastating mudflow.
They made 12 controlled blasts to restore the roads destroyed by the mudflow and to clear the riverbed of the Baksan river which changed course after the mudflow. To do that, more than 30 specialists lay charges on the slopes of the mountain and in blockages hampering the flow. Having blown off more than 750 kilos of explosives, the technicians created necessary conditions for road services to restore the ways to cut-off settlements.
5 settlements and some 50 tourist facilities were cut off in Elbrus District, Kabardino-Balkaria owing to adverse weather. Airbridges were set in the shortest possible time and people who wanted to leave the disaster area were evacuated. 4 helicopters were deployed to transport people, they made more than 50 flights and transported more than 900 people, including 113 children. More than 650 people of them are tourists, the rest – locals. In addition, the helicopters delivered necessary supplies to mountain settlements. In all, they delivered more than 15 tons of food and essentials.
