Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov has arrived in Tyumen Region to personally check the progress of relief operations affected by the flood and preventive measures taken in the settlements not yet touched by the flood.
Mr. Puchkov together with governor of Tyumen Region Vladimir Yakushev and Emergency Ministry’s task force flew over the worst-hit areas, including Abatskoye and Ishim Districts.
In the town of Ishim, Mr. Puchkov visited a temporary shelter and talked to the residents affected by the disaster.
The Minister and the governor assured the people that all necessary steps were being taken to stabilize the situation in the region.
“The most difficult stage is still ahead, when the water goes down we will have to restore the entire infrastructure,” Mr. Puchkov said.
He added that all systems of engineering communications and flooded roads are going to be restored. In addition, the Emergency Ministry together with the government of Tyumen Region will keep on reinforcing the dyke in the Ishim river.
“As soon as water goes away we will set up commissions to assess the damage done by the flood. We are going to keep on reinforcing the team working in Tyumen Region by complex brigades which will help the residents to rebuild their houses and clean debris,” the Minister said.
He thanked residents of the flooded districts for their understanding.
“I would like to say thank you to all residents who are displaying understanding, perseverance and sometimes even courage,” Mr. Puchkov said.
He and the governor congratulated two children on their birthdays. Together with their parents they are now living in a temporary shelter. They got big teddy bears as birthday presents, while the third child who wants to become a rescuer got a toy construction set.
