During today’s meeting of the working group of the Governmental Disaster Management Commission Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov has canceled the state of emergency declared in all regions of Siberia due to wildfires.
At the same time, he gave an order to heads of regions to declare state of emergency if the situation got worse and if there was a threat of emergency situations, including those caused by wildfires.
According to Viktor Yatsutsenko, the head of the Emergency Ministry’s National Crisis Management Center (NCMC), the wildfire situation was stabilized thanks to timely decision to declare the state of emergency in Siberia, reinforcement of firefighting teams and protection of settlements.
During the meeting the head of the NCMC also reported that 150 affected people got lump-sum payouts and compensations.
“Compensations have been paid to 150 people in Buryatia and Irkutsk Region. 73 people remain in temporary shelters. Humanitarian aid is being provided to the affected,” he said.
20 tons of relief supplies has been delivered to Bubnovka, the worst hit settlement in Irkutsk Region.
Mr. Puchkov ordered that paying compensations for property lost to wildfires should be taken under strict control.
“I would like you to help people with making necessary documents, it’s an easy procedure but they still need assistance,” the Minister said and added that children from the affected regions should go on holidays to summer camps.
He also demanded that all temporary shelters housing displaced people should be supervised and that a plan of constructing new houses should be made and implemented by 30 September.
The state of emergency was declared in all regions of Siberia on 28 April. Wildfires have destroyed some 100 houses in Buryatia, Irkutsk Region and Krasnoyarsk Territory.
