Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov is going to check preparedness of the Emergency Situations Ministry to respond to disasters in the Arctic and the progress of flood control and wildfire prevention efforts in Northwestern Federal District.
The Minister took off for the city of Arkhangelsk today to inspect the preparedness of the Arkhangelsk Arctic Center and fire and rescue units to respond to different accident typical for the Arctic.
He is going to assess the readiness of the forces and facilities and to hold a meeting discussing the 2017 safe spring season and protection of settlements, businesses and infrastructure against wildfires.
In addition, Mr. Puchkov is going to attend the International youth Arctic Education Forum – The Arctic. Made in Russia held in the village of Malye Karely and to speak to the young people there. The Forum brought together young scientists and specialists involved in studying the Arctic regions of Russia, including human protection in the Arctic.
The Emergency Ministry is ensuring safety of participants of the forum: a fire engine and a team, two quads and two snowmobiles fitted with mobile fire-extinguishing means are on duty in the camp. The rescuers took some rigorous steps to prevent any emergency situations.
The Minister is also going to attend The Arctic – Area of Dialogue Forum and a plenary meeting A Human in the Arctic.
