Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov has laid flowers to monument of Firefighters and Rescuers and Emergency Ministry Veterans set in Kremenchugsky street in Moscow. The event was dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland day.
“On that day we are saying thank you to those who defended our homeland, fought in the battles of the Great Patriotic War, protected state interests of the Soviet Union and then Russia, battled against troubles, problems and disasters,” the Minister said.
Mr. Puchkov pointed out that on that day it was very important to express gratitude to the elder generation.
“There fewer and fewer of those who fought under submachine fire, survived in a trench - there is a mere handful of those people,” said the Minister.
He congratulated on the Defender of the Fatherland Day Dmitry Mikhailik, Chairman of the Central Council of Emergency Ministry’s Veterans and all veterans.
“Allow me to congratulate all veterans represented by you, and all those who are on duty today, who are putting out fires and responding to disasters. This is the main holiday for all of us who have chosen a noble destiny of serving to our homeland,” Mr. Puchkov said.
He added that despite the holidays rescuers and firemen are always on duty and are the first to come to the rescue.
The event was attended by representatives of the Emergency Ministry’s Central Office, its personnel, students, veterans, rescuers of Tsentrospas team, Leader Center and Noginsk Rescue Center.
