The Russian Emergencies Ministry continues fire fighting operation in southern regions of Chile by the order of the Russian Government and in accordance with the request, made by Chilean Government. Over the past 24 hours the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s Ilyushin Il-76 plane carried out 2 flights and dumped over 84,000 liters of water in four runs.
State of emergency remains due to heat wave and strong winds in Valparaiso Region, as well as major fire threats remain in O'Higgins and Maule Regions.
Thanks to Russian Emergencies Ministry’s plane and close cooperation with ground services it was possible to prevent spreading of fire to two settlements: the city of Viña del Mar populated by more than 200,000 people and the town of Cartagena populated by more than 17,000 people.
Since the beginning of the fire fighting operation, the Russian plane carried out 23 flights, more than 966 liters of water were dumped in 44 runs. The Ilyushin Il-76 plane participated in protection of following settlements from wildfires: Melipilla, San-Pedro, , Navidad, Concepción, San Javier, San Juan, Talami, Viña del Mar, Quilpué and Cartagenas populated by more than 500,000 people.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s plane will continue the operation until the situation stabilizes.
