Clerics are going to sanctify the crash site of the Emergencies Ministry’s Ilyushin Il-76 plane and the 12 meter cross, which has been installed on the hill by the Tsentrospas and Leader Teams that has been participating in search operations on the crash site.

The hull number of the crashed Ilyushin Il-76 plane – 76840, which was cut out from the tail of the plane, was installed on the cross by the employees of the Emergencies Ministry.

The plane crashed on 1 July while it was putting out forest fires, which potentially could translate to nearby settlements, in adverse conditions in Kachug District, Irkutsk Region. Debris of the plane were found on 3 July on the hill, near the settlement of Rybny Uyan. Plane was completely destroyed, only the tail of the fuselage remained. Crew died in the crash.

The crew of the Ilyushin Il-76 plane consisted of 10 people: Commander of the plane, the Honored Pilot of the Russian Fedearation Leonid Filin; the second pilot: Aleksey Lebedev; the navigator: Georgy Petrov; the flight engineer: Viktor Kuznetsov; the flight communications operator: Igor Murakhin; flight operators: Sergei Susov; Sergei Makarov; Marad Khadayev; aircraft technicians: Vadim Zhdanov; Andrei Mashninov.

The crew of the Commander Filin was one of the best in the Emergencies Ministry. During their last firefighting operation in Irkutsk Region, this crew defended 30 settlements and villages, where live more than 50,000 people.

The rescuers installed the 12-meter cross in the memory of the killed crew.
